I would appreciate any input in regards to the "true" airspeed figures that any of you who fly the LSA version of the Lightning are seeing?

Also, how does this compair to the non-LSA version?

Mike,

There is really no difference between the planes. Long wings may bring the "clean" stall speed down a bit, but the rest is the same unless vortex generators were installed.

LSA planes are limited to a "maximum continuous" rpm of 2850 according to the Jabiru manual. The prop must be pitched to yield 120 knots true at sea level. And appropriate log book entries made.

Only a fool would admit in writing or email that his LSA Lightning is flown faster than that.

If you check Buz's post of a few days ago, you will note that his speeds of around 160 true all come at higher RPM's (except the first one) But remember that his is a very carefully built Esqual which has a slightly different wing.

It is worth noting that there is a significant difference between a fully faired clean Lightning and a "dirty" one when it comes to cruise and top speeds.

Doug,

Thanks for the input. I guess all I really needed to know was the the LSA 138 mph max at sea level was achievable and accurate for the Lightning's LSA configuration.

Mike
