Can somebody direct me to the applicable regulation regarding fuel systems - I have spent more than one hour at the CARs web site and couldn't find it.

Thanks

I think most of what your are looking for is in Appendix A of “EXEMPTION FROM SECTION 549.01 … - AMATEUR-BUILT AIRCRAFT”. The appendix calls out:
i) a fuel quantity indicating system for each main fuel tank;
j) a gascolator located at the lowest point in the fuel system.

The full details are buried in section Chapter 523 - Normal, Utility, Aerobatic and Commuter Category Aeroplanes. The fuel system is section 523.951 through 523.1001.

Top add to this, legally, if you have a main fuel tank and pump the aux.
tanks into the main (do not feed them directly to the carbs) you do not need
fuel gauges for the aux. tanks. But you had better know how much you have
in the aux tanks!

Yep, I found that. I was under the impression that the fuel lines had to be aluminum, but that is not true.
They do have to be 3/8" - see http://ch601.org/resources/faq.htm#Are%20there%20rules%20about%20what%20fuel%20line%20size%20should%20be%20used

Now I'm puzzled. I see the statement in the 601 faq but I cannot find it mentioned in the CARS. You must do a fuel flow test in climb attitude though, which is probably more relevant.

FWIW my fuel lines are nylon feeding a fuel injected engine, so the flows are much higher than for a rotax (most flows back to the tanks). My inspector needed to see the flow report but did not mention fuel line size.
