Hi, Listers,
I just broke a 4" sliver of the corner of my RV7 tipup canopy off. After uttering the appropriate words and feeling really mad about the whole thing, I made some metal modifications on the passenger seatback that was hitting the corner each time it was closed with the seatback in a forward position. That won't happen again!
Anyway, now I want to cement the corner piece back on with as much of an invisible weld as possible. I purchased some "Weld-on" canopy repair that came with a little syringe application bottle. It sure looks like the typical PVC glue although it says specifically made for acrylic, plexiglass etc. I'm a little worried that it may not be quite the best material out there.
Any advice? I'd like to make as good of a repair as I can without removing the canopy from the frame.

Weld-on #3 is the best stuff for glueing canopy material. It has been used by many others (me included) in your situation.
If you still have some scrap left over from your canopy, try making a few test coupons first. You'll find that the glued joint is almost as strong as the original material.

I went one further and fixed the defect then covered the repair with a 'targa strip'. Seems worth the trouble and now makes a really nice seal.

I used carbon fiber as a replacement stiffener to the fiberglass only after my shocks got tired and my canopy did not go fully up and I hit my head on the corner of the Targa corner while climbing in. No damage to my head but a really nice crack on the fiberglass Targa corner causing me much angst to repair & repaint. I think I would have preferred a crack in my head and not the Targa strip. IMHO the tip ups don’t look finished w/o the Targa strip.
Since we are on the subject of finish work on a tip up. Another nice feature on my 6A is the fiberglass cover to the underside of the tip un just above the avionics.

The short answer is no. I have a hangar in moth of my commute locations plus a canopy cover that protects the entire hinge area. Plus I have some compressible door seal material (D shaped [pictured]) to keep rain / moisture out in general. I am sure others have done much more to prevent water / moisture from entering this area including you good idea of sail cloth. To date I have had no issues.

Well, the sailcloth works fine for the minor leak I get when flying in rain or clouds. The one I was real worried about was opening the canopy with a bunch of raindrops on the canopy. The sailcloth works there too. Looks more finished too, I think, when the canopy is open.
Back to the crack in the canopy, though. I'll cement it back together with the Weldon #3 and I have some real thick vinyl made for vinyl signage on vehicles that I'm thinking of using for a Targa stripe. It will be easy to put on and remove if it doesn't work. How do I fill the crack flush so the line of the crack doesn't show thru the vinyl? Bondo?
