Pat and Carl Beatrice's Lightning flew for the first time on 4/4/2009.

The new Lightning LSA demo flew for the first time this past Saturday.

Bob Haas' Lightning flew for the first time this past Sunday.

These were the 39th, 40th and 41st Lightnings to fly. We have delivered 76
kits, so over half the kits delivered the past three years are now flying.

Congratulations to all.

Congratulations to all; it's great to hear that there is more Lightning in
the sky (the right kind, of course)!

I agree Earl: When pilots find out the performance and strength numbers that go with the great looks of our Lightnings, it is pretty darn hard to not buy one. My neighbors say mine looks like it is going 100 mph when sitting still (and I really can not disagree with them).

Hey World Record Earl,
You have done a lot with your extensive efforts that resulted in the Lightning's world record. I am sure it is the only SLSA with a world record in its history. So, how about another record? West to east this time? Or you could trace the route of Santa or the Easter Bunny as they make their yearly rounds. Just a thought, your mileage may vary.
Blue Skies,
Buz

Hi Earl and everyone else.

One of the best things we can do to spread the word is to show up at Sun n Fun and Oshkosh and show our planes off. If we can get 4 or 5 Lightnings parked in the homebuilt area I think we'd have a great showing! If we're lucky maybe we can get a row started. Buz, you'll be there first - can you ask?

Sure, I will do that. I would probably have more "pull" if we were allowed to park in the Vintage area, but I will talk to the homebuilt parking crew when I arrive at SNF tomorrow afternoon. So if you are going to fly to SNF, let me know today so I can give them an idea of how many airplanes we are talking about. The more airplanes we have, the more likely they are to listen to this request. Also, I am sure everyone realizes that during the flyin, at times the number of arriving aircraft can get overwhelming and parking crews do their best just to get everyone safely parked. If you arrive at one of these busy times, you may find yourself parked next to a "belchfire 400" instead of where you want to be. If that is the case, you may be able to move later when things settle down. If you see several Lightning in a parking row, walk there and save yourself a spot and move your aircraft later. Also be advised, all of the parking crew are volunteers and they get lots of "strange" request at times. Some of the crew are more "friendly" and some can be, well, not so accommodating, so to speak. But we shall see. Lets have a great turn out. See you there.
Blue Skies,
Buz

Buz,

Why don't you call my wife and discuss this idea. Be sure to mention funding. You've met Susan, so you don't need an intro. 404-351-5256 (H).

Seriously, we need to lobby the NAA (sanctioning body) for a Light Sport record category. Meanwhile there are tons of possible speed records - pick a pair of airports or nav facilities at least 249 sm apart and get a record for speed over a recognized course.. I came close to the class C-1a weight limit of 1103 lbs take off, but some of the later light sport Lightnings are lighter than N17EF, and could make it easily with a slim pilot (I weighted 155 lbs at the time). Non LSAs can go for records in the C-1b class (up to 2205 lbs).

OK hot-rodders, who's up to the challenge?

Earl
