I have had two of the Push-Type Quick Fuel Drains start leaking on me.
They will start to slowly drip and at first can be fixed by just
snapping the valve open and closed. However, this only lasts a short
time and then they drip again. On removal of the drain, I have found
that the little "O" ring has worn down and does not fit tight. Is there
a better drain valve type out there? I really don't want to have to
change these valves every year.

Dan, I had the same problem with mine. I ended up switching to the style that twist to lock open or you just push up on the T to get a sample of fuel. I purchased mine thru Aircraft Spruce.

I received several replies to this issue. It appears that the original

quick drains may not be alcohol proof. There are new drains that have a
blue gasket instead of black and the blue is supposed to be better.

I ordered the type Dwight talks about and will see if this is a better
solution. For me this is a very important issue. My main gear rests on
car dollys and the dripping gasoline collected in the pan of the dolly
and was about 1" deep. Next to the main gear is my shop air compressor
that comes on (think big spark) automatically. Since I don't use much
air anymore, I only plug the unit in when I am working on something.

Dan

Ive replaced my share of quick drains both the t locking type and the push type, the t type is a better design but the push type should hold up for better than a year.....3 to 5 yrs. this has been my experience on A/C running only 100LL, might be the gas. The most common problem Ive seen 9 times out of 10 is a paint chip no matter how small will get stuck between the "o" ring and the seat. and its always paint chips too. Every time i find one I'm still amazed at the odds it would be to catch a small piece like that going past the seat. I think Ive rotated the sump drains at least 4 times on 10 planes, replacing the leaker, removing paint chip, and putting it back in stock for next time.
