HI KIDS.
There was a post about the installation of 2 12V batteries in place of the large (very expensive) G-50C. There is an old Commander service letter (#52), from 1962, that allows that change with only a logbook entry. I found this gem about 2 months after I replaced the G-50C ($750.00) IN MY OWN AIRPLANE!!!!!! Oh well. If you are a TCFG member, I will get you a copy. The substitution of PMAed Gel Cells would not require anything beyond a log entry. jb We found the real 'Hotel California' and the 'Seinfeld' diner. What will you find? Explore WhereItsAt.com.

JB,
I would appreciate a copy, please.
I have a AC 500A, a copy of the service letter could prove very useful.
eMail would be the easy way to send it, or let me know if you want to post a copy.
Cheers,
Bill Hamilton

Well I could use a copy. I'm trying to replace the tray at the moment while rebuilding the instrument panel and some other avionics.  Being able to put in two 12V in series rather than a single 28V would be nice.... Also to see what was done to secure the batteries

http://www.batterymart.com/p-hawker-sbs-J16-aircraft-battery.html

Folks,
The above shows a Hawker Odyssey battery described as an “aircraft battery”, they are similar to the Hawker Genesis we mostly use down here.
Seems to me that a conversion from old fashioned Gill/Concorde wet lead acid shouldn’t be too much problem.
There are a string of STCs for the more “up market” 24 volt Hawker batteries for Commanders, 680/690, but they are probably priced similarly to the dinosaur batteries.
CASA ( Campaign Against Sustainable Aviation) in Australia is generally regarded as far more difficult to get along with, compared to FAA, so a 337 conversion should not represent too much of a problem, with a copy of SL 52 in hand, and the price/performance/life/zero-zilch-nil maintenance is very attractive.
Two 12v Genesis as above will run maybe $300, two of the above around $300.
Cheers,
Bill Hamilton

Bill, is that CASA business an activist group bent on sabotaging aviation? Their name sounds ambiguous.
