My 601XL is getting ready for inspection nest weekend and I can't find or figure out how to seal the canopy at the side rails. My problem is that I have a 3/4 inch gap there. I have looked at weatherstripping, garage door seal, ACS catalog, auto shops, door seals. Unless someone has a better idea I plan to get s 3/4 to 1 inch thick sheet of closed cell-foam and cut strips to glue to the bottom of each rail. The thickest door seal I have found is 1/2 inch.
Thanks

Have you considered stacking weather strip on top of more weather
strip? Also you might stick some to the canopy and some to the rail.

Im planning on using some automotive weather stripping so that it is durable. There are places online that have tons of different shapes and thicknesses.
Ive got 1/2" on one side 3/8" on the other.

The problem with putting foam under the canopy rails is that the stuff
tends to get really stiff in cold weather. It gets hard to compress
under the rail, making it difficult to fully latch the canopy. I ended
up attaching a foam strip to the inside of the canopy rail that
extends down to make contact with the bottom frame. As I recall, it's
a garage door bottom seal made of foam rubber about two inches wide
with the bottom 1/4 inch angled about 45 degrees. When I close the
canopy, the bottom edge bends inward instead of compressing, causing
less resistance to closing the canopy. I only have about 3/8ths of an
inch of gap to seal, so I trimmed top edge of the foam to just cover
the double sided tape I used to attach it. I can check to see if I
still have the packaging so I can get a brand and part number of the
product. As I recall, I bought it at Home depot.

The low pressure above the wing causes air to leak OUT of the cabin
under the canopy rails. So a flexible strip applied to the inside of
the canopy rail will tend to get pushed into the gap to help seal it.

Check out McMaster-Carr, http://www.mcmaster.com. They have an large
assortment of seals. I used the Rubber Bulb seal and they can be bought
adhesive backed.

Here's the stuff I used: http://www.mcmaster.com/#8121a11/=1xen2e
I found it either at Home Depot or Lowes, I haven't seen it at either
lately. I cut off the one inch angle and taped the rest to the inside
of the canopy side frame with the 3/8th inch angle on the bottom
facing inboard. I installed it while sitting inside the cabin with the
canopy fully latched with the 3/8th inch angle just slightly pressing
against the longeron doubler. This way, it doesn't interfere with the
canopy closing even in the coldest weather and it seals the gap very
well.
I originally had it extending from the instrument panel to the rear
end of the rail, but the section aft of the latch kept snagging on the
seat cushion and finally peeled off. So now it only extends aft to the
latch and I have a short piece of foam weatherstrip stuck to the
longeron doubler to seal the gap aft of the latch.

DOes not sound right with 3/4 inch gap. You need to redo that and make it tighter.
Maybe 1/4, but 3/4"?

Thanks everyone. I have more ideas to work with now. As far as the gap being too wide, I think it a bit wide, but it is constant front to back, so to make it loser I guess I'd have to redo the front hinge first, but the rear rest on the latches so don't think I can lower that. I will go with the foam first, then seek out the garage door seals to get a better looking and better fit.
Thanks again.
