Gary:

I'm not qualified to offer an opinion on your problem, but I can say
that when I had some of my own issuez with my Lightning, Arion and GL,
(specifically Ryan) stayed with me every step of the way. When they
say that they want satisified customers, they really mean it. I have
never found things to be any different.

Best of luck to you and hopes for a speedy resolution.

Jim!

Gary C     Sounds like Johnny has offered some excellent help.  I am sorry for the damage to your plane.  Question.  Was the damage to the paint strictly from the auto fuel C or did it go unnoticed for a while and the time on surface caused the bubbling?  The reason that I ask is because I've seen many composites refueled and overflowed.  Granted 100LL evaporates much more quickly.  Anyhow C good luck and hope that you send us pics of your plane airborne again sometime soon.

Johnny C
   Also sorry to here of your unfortunate happenings.  I am really glad that you chose to have that in the newsletter.  I used it as an example safety topic at work.  I once saw a guy that was life flighted due to a similar issue with a gas tank on a car.  Unfortunately he was not as lucky.  Glad to here that you are okay.  I want to thank you for offering the help to Gary.  It shows a true commitment and love of building.  I believe this to be even more so considering your own current issues.  I believe that the things that you recommended are accurate and warranted.  If one component in the fuel system had issues a thorough checkout of the rest of it C while hopefully just precautionary C will help to validate the systems solidarity.  I hope to meet you both out west some day.  Also loved the article on Greg Hobb's place.  Greg and his wife are two of the most hospitable people you'll ever meet.  Great place.  Take care C Brian W.

The paint lifted after fuel escaped from the vent tube and ran down the wing.

Thanks for your concern.

Thanks Brian. I have enjoy Gary's company and hope to be flying wingman for him soon. Are you in Houston? My wife & I fly into east Texas a lot.

Greg and Crystal are wonderful. They have become wonderful friends\family and will just do about anything for anyone. Heck, Greg even helped me move out of our home and hanger and has stored 3 planes for me this past year. Never heard of a dealer doing that before.

Hi again Gary,
I have been meaning to write again sooner, but have been just too busy to find the time to put together a message. But your tank issue and certainly your above comment really concerns me. Something else is going on in your tanks. There is just no way that auto fuel, even with ethanol, running down your wing would cause the paint to lift. Something else is going on - meaning something else must have been in the fuel or the tank. I have no idea as to how it got there, and that is the part that concerns me. I have done some recent research on the Kreem that is used to slosh the tanks and no fuel (auto or 100 LL) should be able to lift it once it is cured. And it would have been well cured before you got your wings. Anyway, I hope that you will soon be back in the air and enjoying your airplane again. When you have the time, please consider an article for the newsletter outlining your problem, the fixes you have gone through, and any lessons learned and or recommendations you might have.  The next issue of the newsletter (June) is almost done and I hope to get it out before 1 June, but I will "hold the press" so to speak if you have something by early next week. After that I will be busy with the Virginia Regional Fly -In. Hope to get the June issue out before it starts.
Blue Skies,
Buz

PS: Go easy on Doug, he really is an OK guy - most of the time. Wink

<?xml:namespace prefix="v" /><?xml:namespace prefix="o" /><![endif]--> Good morning Buz

I really don't know what caused the mess. I wish I did. I do know it has been a major amount of work and expense. I have spoken to other builders of similar aircraft using Kreem sealant and they have described the same problems. Maybe there is something in auto fuel????

I just finished the second coat of new sealant on one of the tanks. It looks pretty good. I was able to remove most of the old stuff. I will keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks for your concern.

Gary
How are you resealing the tanks. Did you remove the tank?

<?xml:namespace prefix="v" /><?xml:namespace prefix="o" /><![endif]--> Hello Wayne
I removed both wings. I did not cut the tanks out of the wings. I used Acetone to soak and remove most of the old sealant. I am using the same "Kreem" brand to reseal.

Have a great day

The brand name is "Kreem" fuel tank liner. Do not have a part number. The company is in Somis, California.
