What happens if you use regular auto gas instead of premium in the 100
HP 912S? If you find yourself in a place that only has regular auto
fuel, can it be used for a short period without compromising safety
and/or damaging the engine?
No I have not had this happen but it is not out of the realm of
possibilities.

Dan it can't be used reliably but you might be OK with up to 50% mix into existing premium fuel. Best option is to use avgas for topup because that wont cause detonation to occur where low octane fuel will. Whether this damage occurs on a particular flight is not related to duration of running the fuel but conditions on the day such as load and temperatures. With the Bing carbs the most critical phase will be full throttle. Low criuse settings should be OK and with the 701 you can takeoff like that, also the first t/o will be on full strength fuel so youre probably covered in an emergency.
