Greetings,
I needed a coiled cord and went to a local thrift store. Rummaging through a box of miscellaneous stuff in the "electronics section," there were dozens of devices with coiled cords attached. I bought four different devices, each with a coiled cord attached to it. I don't remember what they were originally connected to; I think one had a cigar lighter power plug on one end and I think another one was a cell phone battery charger. I think all four of them, combined, cost two dollars.
I took them home and cut off whatever was connected to one end and examined the cut end to see how many wires were in the cable and how big they were. Of the four I brought home, one was perfect, another would have been adequate, and the other two either didn't have enough wires or they were too tiny for my application.
It turned out great, cost almost nothing, and kept something out of the landfill. Plus a charity got a couple of bucks.
Good luck,
Dennis
