Hi all,
I'm supposed to get some ankle surgery tomorrow so won't be flying for a couple of weeks but there's alot of nice events coming up. Here are just a few.
May 30 – 31 2009
Suffolk Executive Airport, Suffolk, Virginia (SFQ)
See and hear hundreds of homebuilt, antique, classic, military, light sport, ultralight, and powered parachute aircraft at the Suffolk Executive Airport during the largest "Fly-In" in the Mid-Atlantic. See radio controlled aircraft fly. Take flights in biplanes and helicopters. Examine aircraft up close, talk to pilots and builders, visit the Youth Tent for hands-on activities. Kids and parents, come fly Control Line Models with an instructor! Attend aviation-related forums and participate in "do it yourself" workshops. Enjoy a pancake breakfast daily 7:30 to 11:30am and other food during the day. Aircraft will fly in and depart all day. See www.VirginiaFlyIn.org for photos, maps, updates and detailed information. RV and tent camping areas available.
Every Sunday is soup on Sunday fly-in at Campbell
6/13/09-6/14/09 Saturday & Sunday: Campbell Field Airport 75th Anniversary Fly-In & Camp out. “Kellam Day”. Pack your tents & sleeping bags and come celebrate 75 years of aviation history at Campbell Field Airport on the beautiful Eastern Shore of Virginia. Seventy five years ago Darrell Kellam, pilot of an English made two place bi-plane, the Avro Avian, built this little airport for people in the community to enjoy aviation. It went on to become the first public-use airport on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and has changed very little since 1933. Please join use for a weekend of aviation fun celebrating all old airports and our freedom to fly. This is a fun fly-in all are encouraged to camp-out and have a relaxing weekend. Re-live the excitement of grassroots aviation at the last public use grass airport in Virginia. See CampbellFieldAirport.com for all the details, a menu of all the good food we will be serving, and the evening activities.
June 17-20 Sentimental Journey located at Lock Haven, the birthplace of the Piper Cub. Cubs from all over the country show up from as far as California. There are areas for motor homes and campsites. Live music and good reasonably priced food are hallmarks of this event.
Flying activities include spot landing, bomb dropping and rides in a restored DC3. Although this is billed as a Piper event, all types of aircraft are welcome and the atmosphere is very relaxing.

June 19-21 is Fathers’ Day at Wellsville, PA. It’s a private grass strip which has camping facilities, volleyball courts, swimming pool and a dining area where prime rib steak dinners are to be featured this year. This event mostly draws light sport, ultralights, hang gliders, gyrocopters and some certified aircraft.

I'm planning on making the Suffolk Fly-in, but the weather looks
iffy, if you can believe the Weather Channel. It's showing a clearing
trend toward the end of this week, but there's another batch of rain
out west that will spoil my plans to get back home. Playin' it day by
day for now.
