I bought a new Lycoming O-360-A4M (and a Firewall-forward kit) from
Zenith for my 801. I have 50 hours on it so far and couldn't be
happier with the engine. It started right off the very first time, and
has lower oil and gas consumption than I thought it would have. Also,
it is quieter than I remember from the test flights in the factory
demo, partially due to the soundproofing foam that I used in the cabin.
The reliability of the Lycoming is reflected in the insurability of the
aircraft and the fact that the FAA requires only 25 hours in Phase 1
testing (with a certified prop that Zenith provides), rather than the
usual 40 hours.
