I am planning to go to KPRC for breakfast; the aircraft will be at gross for takeoff there. Anyone have distances for 2700# (at) 5000 MSL? Engine is IO540 and CS prop. Seems like it should not be a problem but at least a pause for thought. On second thought I took a load of 4 and the tool box to KSEZ and never gave it a second thought; no problem.

I operate out of KOGD, ~4500. I have not done any measurements at gross weight and density altitude. But two weekends ago it was close to 80 and I did 8 young eagle flights, several at gross weight ~2650 to 2700. Was off the ground between 2000 and 2500 feet without trying…..hope that helps.

IO540, 260 HP, 2700 RPM…….

Dave-
I am based at KPRC. My last Young Eagles flight was three kids from the same family that weighted in at 635 pounds. (I claim this as a YE record). Fuel was at 40 gallons. Gross weight was 2677 pounds. No worries. Climbed at 800fps.

Last week I rode with a feller in a Cessna 182 that had full fuel and was very lightly loaded. Now that was a worry. Climbed at 400fps.

Full fuel in my -182 was 92 gallons.  At full gross at 6000’DA it climbed better than 400 fpm…hmmm maybe he’d lost a cylinder…
