Hi Everyone

Can anyone give me some guidance on the attachment of the rudder cables on a Mk7 that I am building in the UK.

I have found that the hole in the rudder horn only clears the fibreglass speed fairing on the front of the rudder by about 5/8". This means that when the full 25 Degrees deflection is used the cable attachment link on the cable that is not in tension ( e.g. the right hand cable on full left rudder for example) rests against the speed fairing.

I assume all Mk7 with the speed fairing kit must be the same. I am interested to know if anyone else has noticed this and if so is there wear on the speedfairing in use.

Any information would be appreciated.
Regards

Hi David,

I don't have the speed fairing on mine, but do know
that this problem should be fixed and some have
already done it. I would worry about the cable ends
catching on something and jamming the rudder as well
as the wear you mentioned.

I think some people have mounted strong extensions on
those rudder horns to clear the cables and others have
notched the fairing. Maybe someone else can clairify
this?

David, this is out of my cerification construction summary. I don't notice
any adverse effect when flying and I didn't like the SS fix of adding a wear
plate where the cable hits the fuse.
Tried to put a shot on Sport Flight but locked out at the moment John A.

2. Rudder Control Horns Extension. Due to the extra width of the Speedster
Vertical Tail Modification, the rudder cables were found to be fouling on
the side of the fuselage. Two rudder-horn extensions were fabricated out of
3mm chromium-molybdenum 4130 sheet steel and fixed with two AN4 bolts per
side. Horns are designed in such a way so as to maintain the original lever
arm.
