Michel,
Glenn Crowder is the go-to guy here in the US; he's been flying w/ a
RAM Performance (www.ramengines.com) engine based on the EA81and a
Marcotte psru; Glenn flies a Classic Monowheel; his email is: gcrowder2(at)hotmail.com
; he'll be happy to share his experiences with you.
Though Glenn's engine has carburation, the RAM engines being sold
today are all MPEFI and are available (at) 115 hp (NA) and 140 hp (either
dual ported or w/ supercharger). The published weight (wet) is 176 lbs
+ 11 lbs for the supercharger. "Wet" weight does not include radiator
or exhaust system, which might lead one to question how much, if any,
of the required coolant is included in the figure.

Not a single engine problem C starts instantly C great fuel burn C 160 mph cruise (at) 5300 rpm. I did adjust the valves once a year or so ago.
I am thinking of trying the new Ram Supercharged 140 with a Lipps prop so that could be
another adventure!

The Subaru was tried in the early days of the Europa. It is too heavy to
make the Europa practical. With two on board and full fuel it as at or
approaching MTOW leaving no margin for baggage. Also as the engine is
heavy, the battery has to be as close to the tail as possible requiring
long battery cables. With the increased pitch inertia the handling is
compromised particularly in pitch. This is particularly relevant for a
monowheel. I know one owner who had his converted to a conventional
tailwheel to try to make the handling more manageable but ended up
selling it having still found it a bit of a handful. The Rotax may be
more expensive to start with but it has still to be bettered by any
other engine.

I have never found handling to be compromised in any way. Handling is delightful. I fly
only off pavement and there has been no groundloops or swerving. I fly at high density
altitudes and with the extra power can easily outclimb or outrun all of the R912 powered
planes in my area. In the photo below C the 912 powered camera plane wanted a climb
compararsion. I went to full throttle and started quickly climbing away. The camera
plane was using a Woodcomp prop.
