I ordered the extended range tanks for my 701 and the plans indicate that the inboard fuel sender is the side-mounted and the outboard is the top-mounted. I called Zenith and requested the old instructions for the top mounted because the new instructions only covered the new fuel sender. The gentleman I talked to said that I should be using the side mount for both and told me to send back the top mounted senders for replacement side mounted senders. This is a little embarrassing but when I was working on the outboard tank I saw that the side mounted fuel sender would be possibly damaged if I put it under the fuel cap so I started the installation on the other side without thinking about the consequences of not having access to it once it was installed. So at least one fuel tank is getting the side mounted fuel sender in the middle. I want to do everything I can to make sure it doesn't leak.
In hindsight this was probably why the outboard is the top mounted style. So does anyone have some suggestions as to which side I should put the other side mounted fuel sender on?
The second issue that came up is that my installation kit didn't include any paper washers. After a quick check on the forums I see that a few people have had trouble with the paper washers leaking and breaking. There were a few alternatives presented out there. Using EZ Turn (Fuel lube) seemed to do the trick for most people. Some others suggested using copper washers or self sealing washers. What combination would give me the best chance not to have leaks in the future?
Another quick questions, I will probably be taking the wings off the trailer the airplane fairly often. What kind of quick disconnect would you recommend to put in the fuel line.
