Flew over to Selby's, a local ultralight strip on a horse farm, this morning in the trike and met a fellow who has a Moto Guzzi engine on a Pinnochio (Bleriot look alike if you stand back a few feet. He has a Moto Guzzi engine mated to a Rotax E box. The project has been stalled because he can't get the engine to run at idle and off idle with the prop on it. Runs fine without the prop, runs fine above 4000 RPM. Anyone tried this engine on a Kolb, or anything else for that matter. Steve tells me they're popular in Europe, but they use a different gearbox.

Bob, That was my first suggestion, but if you put a clutch in, the starter won't work.

Try putting a 10# flywheel on it that is directly attached to the engine (in-between the engine and rubber donut). Make sure that most of the weight is on the outer ring of the flywheel.

The BMW R100 smoothed out considerably at low RPM with a heavier flywheel.
