[quote] Hi Carlos.  I also got one of their drills, and it also wobbled. Had some misgivings, but in actual practice, it drilled good holes. I'd say, try it out and see how it produces.  Three years or so later, I'm still using it.

Yikes! I just went out and tried mine, and it has *no* discernible
runout. That said, mine has a red plastic part (as opposed to your
yellow -- does that make a difference?); I bought it a few years ago;
and I'm using 1/4-20 threaded bits, not a collet.

Yes, it sucks, doesn't it. It is hard to make a hole in a predefined spot.
I don't know if a threaded bit would make any difference: the tool comes with 4 collets, and they are just about the same in "wobliness level".
Thanks for taking the time.

Re my previous report on my tightfit drill: I’ve always used the threaded drills. That could account for my relative lack of wobble.

<?xml:namespace prefix="v" /><?xml:namespace prefix="o" /><![endif]--> Not quite that much. It almost looks like a slightly bent drill bit. How good is the hole it produces?

Carlos-
Roll the damn drill bit on a flat surface and find out if it wobbles. It doesn't look like it will. If it doesn't, you've got a collet problem.

Re: tight fit tool.

Have you guys looked at this?

or this?

You could probably use this to build your plane and then sell it and get most of your money back. I got two of the tight fit drills and never take them out any more. I use a drill similar to the second one. Works great! and less filling.

<?xml:namespace prefix="v" /><?xml:namespace prefix="o" /><![endif]--> It's a nice looking tool, but seems too large to get into the tight spots Mine is at the hangar, but I think it will get within 3/4" of a side wall, and needs only about 2" from back to tip of a short bit.

Yes, the one I have will get into the same places the Tight Fit drill will get. Plus, you can use it with one hand if need be.

The drill in the first link in my message was a little large. I probably shouldn't have sent that one, but it was cheaper. The second product in the second link has a head at least as small as, if not smaller than the Tight Fit drill extension.

Regards,
Do Not Archive this or anything I am foolish enough to post.

There is enough material in the TF tool head to file the corners off at a 45 degree angle, this will let you get to within 10 - 11 mm of a vertical surface. Many of you have commented that the tool is a bit wobbly, mine is to but it does not seem to affect its ability to drill.

Using the stubby bit that came with the tool, not good: visibly oval.

I'll try to contact the vendor tomorrow, see what can be done.
They are *very* nice, but I don't know what can be done to fix my problem.
