The LAA have started flight testing a 601XL modified with internal aileron mass balances and beefed up spar carry through.
It is fitted with two accelerometers on each wingtip and a gps gizmo data logger installed.
A series of flights have been carried out over two days and after each flight, data from the logger was downloaded to a laptop for analysis.
One more days flying should hopefully complete the programe, possibly later this week.

Do you have anymore information on the aileron changes? The picture looks like there are two ailerons. Jerry of GA DO NOT ARCHIVE

It'a a standard aileron with another rib attached where you can see the double row of rivets as extra support for the arm which protrudes forward into the wing with a balance weight on the end. Very neat and unobtrusive.

I believe that the counterbalance design being used by the LAA is very similar to the design shown in Fig. 24 of Prof. Weltin's GVT report.
