Sorry about starting a new thread, but those giant images render the old one unusable to me.
I made my aileron bell crank access covers tonight. This is dimpled for flat head screws, joggled for flush fit.
A few days ago I finished my LRI Probe.
What did you do?
Dan

Pretty nice, Dan
I did something like those access covers for the wing tips (I'll buy and install the strobes much later). Look very nice, but time consuming to make.

Today, I dind't do anything worth photographing, but the centre wing (601-HD) is looking interesting, now that the seat is in place.

I couldn't resist, so I went ahead and installed it, even though I'll just have to remove it later.
Here's a photo.

Yesterday I cut all the openings for the gas tanks in the left wing. Today I riveted the anti oil can strings to the top skin.

Hi Wade,

Thin, ain't they? LOL I think they are just there to keep the air out. Smile
Yep, all skins except the bottom cabin skin is .016 on a 701.

The following is a loose translation of a joke stolen from Gary in Mexico:

"A guy was watching me drill and cleco the skins on my fuselage. He left and came back later with a roll of Reynold's Wrap and said 'I bought you some more aluminum skin in case you run short!' "

Eldon,
I'm attaching this picture, but please keep in mind, I have no idea what I'm doing here. My wings are close to being closed, so I added the stringers the way I thought I'd heard them described. When I asked for advice a week or so ago about these, no one responded. But I see Tommy's photos are in the other direction! This may be my big goof #2. If anyone knows how these are suppose to be installed please speak up.

Per the 650 plans, the optional L angles go from the 4th rib to the wing tip, parallel to the main wing spar and 425mm aft of the main spar rivet line.

Dan,
Who am I to say someone is not doing it "correctly? I just copied what I saw in other places. Jon Croke did his 701 this way. That is not to say his way is best.

I just wanted to cut down on some of the oil canning in the 701 with the .016 skins.

I do like the they way your stringers are aligned. Who knows? Maybe your way is the better way!

Tommy,
Thanks for the post. I just want to make sure I'm doing something dumb, like adding stiffness where it doesn't belong. Evidently I've done it the way they are doing it on the 650, so I'm satisfied.
When will #2 be flying?
