Interesting…read the final sentence of this paragraph. It takes almost 2 years to mint a wingman in the AF/ANG. One week from new owner to “Top Gun”.
Interesting…How does it go?....Balls out, Hair on Fire, and Ears Laid Back…I’m about to be famous!

It should draw a lot of Red Star guys to it! Now, if they issued a full
blown FAST card with that one week deal, I might go to it myself.

I want a FAST card, but am NOT willing to get it from RedStar! Smile

Hell maybe we should send our FNG's to LoPresti for their fighter lead in
training and B-course after UPT. A week vs 9 months what a deal. Well
atleast the Predator drivers could go (R/C from the Cab what a thrill). They
could even get their tail wheel endorsement while they are there too.
In this time of budget constraints a week ought to be one hell of a deal.

Getting recommended to attend to Top Gun, Fighter Weapons School or WTI (Marines) takes a helluva lot more time than two years.

I wish I had known (before I spent 6 years getting the nod) that I could have done it in under a week.

Probably gives out a set of AF wings when you're done. (Naval Aviator wings would take an additional week.)

Keith,
We can debate the value of AF vs Navy over a few beers! But when it comes to
ANG..AD AF, Marines, and Navy all come calling. We get the best of the best!
Are you good enough?

AT one time YES, according to the USMC. Hell, I even fooled the ANG into taking me on for a few years too!

Kinda reminds me of that old story: As new hires at Delta we were going through training in the same building as the Flight Attendants. On particular day when we actually got to fraternize, a young (probably blonde) F/A inquired about our training. "10 weeks" she was told. Her reply "you mean I could have been a pilot if I just stayed 6 more weeks"

Sheeesh!

S/F

Keith

ps, don't forget the Eagle driver who got 3 (or was it 2) Mig kills during desert sheild in 92 was a Marine on an A/F exchange tour! Ohh rah.

The "Best of the Best" go to the Air National Guard? Shoot, I didn't
know it was made up mostly of Marines Doc. Thanks for telling me!

"We can debate the value of AF vs Navy over a few beers anytime", but a
comment:

Keith was a Marine. Do not equate that to being "in the Navy". The
Marines are to the Navy as a flush chain is to an old toilet; Part of
it, but not IN it.

That point aside, also be aware that Sailors and Marines fight at every
opportunity, until someone from the Air Force walks by, then they beat
the crap out of those poor guys as a team.

Finally, tell me something on a professional note: Since we both would
agree that the Air Force has tactical missions in the real world....
Just who is providing EW support for your aircraft? Including the F-117
models back before they retired? Hmmm? Did you know that the Air Force
CONTRACTED the Department of the Navy to do that for them? Yep. Right
after they retired the EF-111. An "embarrassing fact" if you ask me.

End of debate.

Nah, everybody is at OSH. I'll blow over. Besides, Keith has already been in
the Guard after his AD tour...see what I meant?

Yes as I remember it was a cost cutting measure to incorporate the AF
Ardvark Drivers with the A-6 guys to get all in one airframe at one cost.

Yeah, but you take the Navy guys off of the boat and deploy them to your
typical country club AFB and you ruin them forever! All those shipboard
skills deteriorate rapidly. They lose their ability to walk on bulkheads
(walls) on a rolling ship, no longer can they sleep under a jet blast
deflector during flight ops that's making shit fall off of the walls in
their stateroom, they get overly sensitive because they're not used to
getting pounded on by LSO's after every trap, their skills dull for their
night joinups on a tanker with a low fuel state because the deck's foul,
they forget how to read stuff like " - HX S.CHLUIM LoBIC EGAR PNUTL T1"
(Interpreted to mean, "No grade pass (shitty grade) high start, settle on
chase lineup in the middle, low flat in close, ease gun at the ramp, pull
nose up to land. Taxi one wire."), but mostly they forget what it's like to
get shot up a dead cow's ass (night cat) and they learn to land at night
without their knees shaking afterward. Yup, ruins 'em forever! : )

Yep, that's why I did not join the Navy, Army, or Marines. I like the
personal amenities of life. Clean sheets, cool bed, warm women, and a cold
beer after the last jet lands not when the boat decides to float into a port
of call after six weeks at sea. Saying nothing of well appointed long and
wide runways that do not move up or down without your personal control
inputs. Where every landing is a landing not a controlled crash where you
wonder if you bit your tongue off or was it your lip that is bleeding and
can they sew that hole in my forehead back together after forgetting to lock
the inertia reel for landing. Yep, only have to worry about the inertia reel
when the crew chief left it locked and you are trying to hook up to your
harness (coke fittings). We engage the cable only when we have a real
emergency whereas for your guys all engagements are emergencies. Consider
how many heartbeats you guys are wasting. You know you are only issued X
amount. Using them all up in one night trap, you guys are destined to live
shorter lives!

Doc,
I thought you flight surgeons wanted us to get our heart rates up for
cardiovascular excercise. And forgetting to lock your harness on a trap
resulting in gunsight imprints on foreheads just adds character. But, the
rush on a heavy launch weight cat shot on the Lexington or the other 27
Charlie class carriers with C-7 catapults that made end speed in the first
50' of the stroke were the best face lift anyone ever received.
