Alternator output fuse

I am using a  CAM 040AD alternator

               Which is a DENSO alternator 18504-6220 .

                     It is a 40amp alternator,and the instructions say 

to use a

  40amp fuse on the output.

                    After about 15hrs on the RV-8 ,the breaker blew.

                   It seems I will need a larger breaker.What size are 

others using

  for output on a 40amp alternator??

are you using did the breaker trip or did it fail. if it failed you probably had a loose wire on it. if it just triped it did its job and you have foo much load.
