All-
Doing the rivet hole drilling on the center wing of my HDS.
There are a number of "No rivet zones". Thinking back to the rudder, you went ahead and layed out and drilled the holes but didn't rivet them until final assembly.
Same thing on the center wing? Lay out and drill the holes, but don't rivet until mating with the fuselage, or leave them blank?
Bill

Don't drill the holes. You will install parts later that will dictate where the holes go. You can't just use the spacing specified on the drawings to locate these holes.

Leave them blank. Some of them you'll probably need to drill from below.
The longeron intersection for example. At least this was so back when I
built my center wing, probably from a kit much older than yours.

As a first-time builder I've been caught by the no-rivet zone problem a
couple of times. It really means "no drill" zone.

Also, if you are building a 601 in the same order as the photo diagrams,
when you
get to the fuselage, that is the first time (I think) that rivet lines are
not necessarily straight. There are offsets to avoid being too close to the
edge of longrons. So, look at the drawings and at the photo diagrams to
catch these less than straight rivet lines.

John-
Appreciate every heads-up. Where I could kick myself is not asking "What
if" before drilling the port side holes.
I'm cobbling together an HDS- no pictures, just two sets of plans and
two sets of instructions.

For those holes drilled where another sheet has to go on top, and that is
the main or only reason for not drilling to early, I made (and they are
available to buy from ACS etc.) a tool to drill the top hole to match the
one underneith. It saves that "opps" feeling from taking place sometimes.
Simple to build! If you'd like a pic contact me off list.
