Has anyone found a good tape for closing the gap between wing and fuselage? I used the white duct tape when I built at SYI; however, it left a stubborn residue when I had to replace it and required a lot of elbow grease and time to clean it off so I could apply new tape. I next used a vinyl tape which deteriorated in the sun and left a couple of open spots on the right wing. It caused some buffeting in flight and I discovered the problem after landing.
I welcome any suggestions of a good tape and the source of supply.
Thanks, Linda

When I went to Shelbyville I don't remember seeing anything between the wing and the fuselage.
Does anyone know if it improves performance significantly to close the overlap?

Hey: I believe that most of the Lightning's built in Shelbyville in the last year and 1/2 have used the technique of fairing the wing-fuselage and horizontal stabilizer-fuselage gaps with fiberglass so that tape is not required.
If you build it without the fiberglass farings built in, you definitely need the tape.

Thanks Charles; I have ordered a roll of the tape and will give it a try. I also noted on the website that he recommends removing the tape residue with lighter fluid vice MEK, acetone, etc. He says that lighter fluid protects the gel coat better than any other fluid so I am going to switch to that also. Others may benefit from that tip also when changing tapes.

Try any of the "goo off" orange products to remove the residue or even WD 40 if you have nothing else.

I use a citrus product called “GOO Gone”. Unfortunately I have had to replace wing-fuselage tapes several times it seems to work
with out to much stress. Bob Haas N330BH.
