It is will very mixed emotions that I wish to let you all know that as of today, there is a new owner of N730AL.  I officially sold my aircraft to Larry Boyer today and for me, this was a very emotional moment watching him fly it away from the airport.  After a year and a half of building my Lightning and interacting with you all, this is a very hard time for me, but I want you all to know that even though the airplane is gone, your friendship is not.  Hopefully my income situation will improve over time and I will build another, time will tell.  Nick, start working on the wide body Lightning, (just kidding).

To all, Larry is a great guy and will be a plus to the Lightning community.  He is an avid Rotorcraft builder and flier, so he's a little wacky, but that will fit in with the rest of us.  I will be updating him with all the necessary links and instructions on how to join this group and become an active member of this circle of Lightning builders and fliers.

I plan to stay involved even though I no longer own a Lightning.  Maybe a can con, uh, I mean talk Larry into letting me hitch a ride in my, uh, I mean his Lightning to the next Lightning fly-in in September!

Anyway, thanks all of you for your friendship.  I know it will continue.

Jim!

Thanks Brian. I want to see the “Fat Boy” Lightning. I think they may designate it FB-1.

Sounds like a military Jet, what do you think Buz.

Yes, I will stay involved and plan on keeping my site up. It will be a way to keep the Lightning fever fresh for me.

Jim,
I can't imagine how hard it must have been to part with your beautifuly "jet". I certainly hope the economy changes quickly and we see you back in the build mode soon. Yes, do keep in touch as it's been a very good read whenever you send comments out here to the group.

Thanks Bear, this is a fun group and the build experience was fun and has taught me quite a lot. You know, they say when you build a house, you never really get it the way you want the first time around. Although I know that Larry is very pleased with my aircraft, there are many things that I would do differently to suit my own tastes now that I have built one. It’s funny, I was sitting out on the front porch tonight visually walking through that whole build experience and could see everything. You should see what I came up with!

Even Brian would like it…

(grin)

I would say that the application of RC and computer technology would play a big role in the next Lightning.

We’ll have to wait and see…

Jim,
I am happy for you and the new owner, but we definitely want you to remain on the "team" and build another Lightning, regardless of its designation. I think you will find that no other aircraft that can meet the light sport requirements can come anywhere close to the Lightning in terms of flying, performance, building ability, safety or looks. Just try building one of them in less than a year or landing one of the others in a heavy cross wind.
But as to the "Fat Boy" name, I kind of think that name would bomb.
Blue Skies,
Buz

PS: See you, Larry, and N730AL at SYI in September.

Gee, and I thought it was such a good name.  The Harley-Davidson guys like the Fat Boy model that Harley makes...?
