You can always learn something on this list.

I went to the Lindbergh web site and read some of his flight record. After his historic flight, he made a tour of the US, visiting all states. What was interesting was that He visited several Towns near my home.

Vidalia Georgia (60 miles)(Home of the Vidalia Onions). McRay, Georgia (65 Miles), and Millen, Georgia (12 miles).

I worked in Millen, Ga. for 47 years at one plant before retiring.

My home airport is JYL, Sylvania, Georgia.

In the early 70' I was running a survey crew on the remote east end of Maui (Hana). Lindbergh and his old pal Sam Pryor (PAA) had bought the old church at Palapala Ho'omau in Kipahulu, where they each lived. They hired us to survey the place and put in fresh boundary pins. In standard Hana style we got 90% done (everything short of setting the pins), before we got sidetracked by other jobs.

After a month or so Sam called and told us to hurry and finish the job. Sam was never in a hurry for anything, so we figured the news wasn't good... We went out and set the pins. Later that week Lindbergh's obituary appeared.

The church at Palapala Ho'omau is a peaceful and beautiful spot high on an ocean cut cliff. If you go there don't weep over the six child sized graves... They were Sam's gibbons.

I never met Lindbergh but I was (like everyone else in Hana) on a first name basis with Sam.

Grant, It must be something in the air. I pulled out the "Spirit of St. Louis" and watched it at least three times in the last week. One of my grandfather's favorite stories was the time he got to shake hands with Lindbergh when he made that flight around the country after the NYP flight.

PS the actor who plays the Jenny dealer in the film is the same guy that does the "make me a sergeant in charge of the booze" scene in the sci fi classic, "Them".
