Last week my nephew and I went to South Florida to acquire a donor airplane for Ed's Firestar II rebuild and my nephew's 67 Mercury Cougar restoration. His dad was giving him an old Ford pickup truck that had outlived most of it's usefulness (at least in West Palm Beach) so we drove down in a rental car to get it.

After we got down there we constructed what my nephew called a "Mexican cattle rack" in the back of the truck (out of PVC pipe!) and tied all the Kolb parts to it.

The first two pictures are at Punta Gorda and show the Kolb tied in place, snugged around a 351 engine tucked into the front part of the bed.

The last picture shows two fine gentlemen who aided and assisted in this endeavor, George Alexander on my right, and the illustrious Beauford Teuton on my left. After checking out Beauford's Kleenex plane, he took us to lunch and sent us on our way well fed and with my nephew asking "Are all airplane guys that nice?"

That's almost as good as it gets, but it actually does get better - the preacher gets to brag on his Lord a little bit - 30 miles after we got home, the next day, the center carrier bearing on the trucks 2 piece driveshaft failed.

Is that not cool or what? Nobody ever gets to be that lucky... so it wern't luck...

As soon as the weather gets too cold to ride motorcycles any more this fall, we cannibalize the Punta Gorda basket case and build Ed's FSII back together. Sweet.

(Will probably have a left wing and tailfeathers left over, if you need those, let me know)
