How wide is a Kitfox IV cockpit? Searched in vain on the web for dimensions. I sat in the Aerotek/Eurofox demo at Oshkosh, pretty comfy cabin at 44". Not sure I could fit comfortably in much smaller...

11 years ago, the late Miguel Ramirez and I attempted to fly together in his KF IV.
While we could twist our bodies a little for shoulder room we could not both be seated
and have ample clearance for the control sticks. So, I would say it is a little too
tight for two bigger than average guys (> 200 lbs).

Paul,
This made me laugh, because I remembered my first flight in
a Kitfox. Our own Lowell Fitt was gracious enough to offer his
aircraft and flight instructor to me, a stranger, for an introductory
flight. (Thanks again Lowell. It proved to be the start of more than
one great friendship.) I'm about 6' and weighed about 200#. The
instructor weighted about 225#. It was no problem for Lowell's Fox
with the 912, but our comfort level was pretty low. I think we flew
with left shoulders back and right shoulders forward. That said I
know many who fly very long distances with two in their IV. (Steve
Kellender just flew with a passenger from Phoenix to Homedale and back.)

The secret is for a tall person to fly with a short person, then your
shoulders do not get in each others way. :^)

I weigh 220 and my son in law weighs 208. We fit tightly in my III with
bubble doors.

I'm 5'-9" and about 230#, my CFI who is doing my transition training with me is 6' and 190#.
We are not uncomfortable in the plane with the bubble doors. It's cozy, but not uncomfortable. Of course it's not a Cirrus or anything, but it is functional with two "real" adults in it. Much better than a C150, IMO.

Thanks, Av8r3400, for the information. However, could you and others on the list please tell us your name when you post? Would even be nice to know where you're located. I think this would make the list much more interesting for many of us.
Thanks,

Some people (like me) just aren't comfortable putting too much personal information on the public portions of the WWW . Maybe I'm just paranoid.
Stan, my name is Larry, I think that my wife and I met you this year at Airventure. I was looking at your Columbine for ideas on my IV-1200 restoration. I'd send you a PM with my personal contact info, but you aren't registered for that...
