Kitfoxers, Can I use the Model 4 classic arm measurements for pilot, passenger, and wing tank fuel on my weight and balance sheet for my Model 3? Also, the fore and aft envelope of 10.2" and 16" of the classic 4, do those measurements apply to the model 3?

PAt, I would have to look but I think the models 1 to 3 are a bit different than the IV model. Something tells me that is like 12 to 16 range.

I got a model 2 manual in shop, will look and let you know

Pat, you should get someone with a model three to verify this information. For what its worth, a weight and balance program I downloaded years ago from the old "Kitfox Builders" website uses the same arms for the models 3 and 4. The forward CG limits are the same. The Rear CG limit is different. For the Model 3 this program lists 14.28 inches.

If I remember correctly, the old skystar factory did some additional testing on the Model 4 and increased the rear CG limit to 16 on the Model 4 only.

I'v always wondered if a person could do an empty weight and balance, then do several more weight and balance with a known weight at each of the loading locations, then run the math backwards to find the Arm for each location???

Tom, Thanks for reply. I since have found an explaination of computing the
CG envelope using mean avg cord of the wing. It was in my builders manual.
It also listed the Mod 4 forward cg as 10.2" which followed the formula of
20% of MAC. In addition it listed the rear CG as 16", 16" does not follow
the 28% of MAC. formula. The 14.28"is 28% of the 51" MAC. I had heard that
the factory had extented the rear CG after tests., and wondered if it also
applied to the model 3. Thanks again.
