What happened to the loop in the first place? Did it break while tied down? Larry

The damage occurred prior to my ownership, but it was a tie down accident that precipitated the sale and my subsequent re-covering of the wings. So my guess is yes. It was broken off on both sides flush with the beginning of the weld.

Thanx Dave. Just curious. I have seen them break off other aircraft in high winds when the rope wasn't looped over the strut. Expensive learning. Good luck with it.

The fact that the part broke at the weld instead of the tieddown rope, suggests to me this would be a good time to take a good look at the weld qaulity of the part. My kit delivered in January 1995 kit had some poor welds (undercuts) on both upper wing strut mounts and warpage on horizontal stab spar due to weld technique. Skystar gladly replace replaced the parts and candidly acknowledged they were not satisfied with one of the welders employed at the time my kit was manufactured.
