Tailnumber ends with "RC" (can be seen in WRAL video).. and report says it
departed Wilmington.. there's only one HXB that departed KILM (right around
the time of accident) and it's N455RC

Report from friends (at) ILM-a/c was from North, fuel stop in ILM. hit ground almost vertical South of airport, wx. was awful. Surely IFR flt plan, but ceilings were marginal.

Flight Aware shows a track leaving ILM yesterday at 12:30pm. The track seems to stop close to Duplin County where the plane was located. The system shows the plane was an experimental (HXB/A) registered (N455RC) to Kenneth R. Hetzel of Yorkville C IL. Not sure how accurate this info is though.

Assuming the tail number was 455RC, then it was built by Richard Case in 2007 and apparently sold to Ken Hetzel of Yorkville, IL.

The airplane was owned by Ken Hetzel, I have flown with him several times and he was an active member of our EAA Chapter. He was not IFR current and might not have even had a rating. The airplane for sure was not IFR.
