Hi All,

I know that a few of us on the Blog have Blue Mountain EFIS units. Blue Mountain is of course out of business and doesn't answer their phone. Does anyone know if it's possible to get Jeppsen updates for their Blue Mountain EFIS units? I have spoken to Jeppsen twice and they say they no longer support Blue Mt. Is there any other alternative?

Don,

Like you, I have a BM in my CJ. I believe I was one of the real early guys to buy one. This year at OSH I was talking to a guy who said he knew the BM owner and that while he didn't plan on producing anymore units, he would keep doing the up dates. Who knows for sure.

Mine has started to give me problems. The GPS part has failed.  I am actively looking to replace mine. With what I have not decided. I will pick someone who is going to be around for a while.

To bad in a way. BM kind of got the aviation world started into EFIS. Most likely BM needed a business man running rather than an engineer.

Jim,

What model of BM are you looking for? I have a new BM EFIS Sport available.

No one has been able to get updates in spite of the fact that greg says he is working on it.

Good thing I bought one update the day they said they were closing the doors. I had a feeling that was going to happen.

Larry,

I think that Dynon and Grand Rapids will be the two left standing at
the end of the day for experimental aircraft.

As for the next leader in that market, watch for Garmin. The new G300
display will arrive with the delivery of the Skycatcher and I would
expect to see that unit available for GA/Experimental shortly afterward.

It's already out there. The G300 units are basically panel mount 696's with an AHRS and a little more expensive ~$6K. The G500 is a single box 2 screen at ~$15K. The G600 is the G500 with all the add-ons (the G500 is really a stripped G600) and ~$25K.

Sorry my mistake. The G300 in the Skycatcher looks like the G3X which is already on the market according to Garmin's website.

The Advance Flight Systems units are good units. they also interface with
the trutrac A/P's, hard wired as well
as serial radios, transponders, GPS's. Synthetic vision and many other
features. Voice annunciation for all Eng
parameters as well as flight info ( Nav status ) and others. It is reported
that they will have 10 + inch
screen out after the first of the year. As big as the Blue MT. Large screen.

The support I have received from BMA has been great. Now that they are shut down for new production and the staff is Greg and one office person, there may be delays in getting help (don't expect a same day response or some times same week response to an inquiry).

Greg and I have been working on some engine monitoring issues for the past two months. While they are not producing new units, it is still possible to get an older one repaired. My engine pod (I use their engine monitoring) which is basically a board full of analog to digital converters, has just been reworked, tested at BMA and is being returned.

As for the Jepp issue, I inquired to Greg about it and he responded last night that he is actively working on the issue. If he gets the issue resolved with Jepp or not is another matter. For it only being one guy trying to keep users going, he is not doing too bad a job from my experience.

This is not meant to start a BMA discussion here. It is meant to give you some hope if you own BMA. There are other BMA users who are actively looking into buying the software and charging for updates, etc to continue to upgrade the software. If the units hardware can be repaired and the software and databases be upgraded, there is no need to change for many years. Bottom line is don't panic as things are still evolving.

Please don't start a post back that Greg promised this and that and never delivered - old news and water over the dam. All I can tell you is what he has done for me regarding support and what he tells me he is working on.

Craig
