The numbers I have are:
N 34 43 60.00 W 79 40 00.00
They seem correct, cross-checking against any of the online maps.. (you can barely see the strip)

Those coordinates look to be on the SC side, Rad, at least on the aprs.fi map. I'm not near my GPS so can't confirm but I have it loaded in there. What's the strip identifier?

PS. Andre, now that we have discovered 5NC3 the gang rarely goes to Stantons anymore. Not that I’m saying there is anything wrong with Stantons…

I used to take a Mooney in there years ago. Best to land to the NW in a Mooney, but an RV will have no trouble either way. The BBQ restaurant is located at the east end of the strip, just across the highway. Just park the plane and walk across the two-lane road.

Hey, Len, imagine my embarrassment when I got home (I had taken photos from the air), I discovered I had been circling the field (a couple of times) but just never had the image of a landing strip develop in the brain {:>). But I got the GPS coordinates now.
I never will forget the flight back home from one Staunton’s visit, keeping the airspeed below 90 in my RV-6A while holding onto the tilt up canopy handle to keep it from rising too far – until the handle came off in my hand having seared the cotter pin.
That was when I also discovered why Van said to put lock nuts on both end of the canopy opening rod. Having taken off and intended to do a high speed, rotary loud, pass over the runway – that is until the canopy popped open, looked and yes the handle was locked properly – just no connecting rod from handle to canopy rear latches – another seat cushion gone to the neither regions.
So, yes, a lot of delightful memories associated with it. IT did have a nice “Pilots room” in the back and the food was good.

yes I remember reading your experience on the serv a couple years ago we finished 2 RV7 and that one thing we check for sure we make that tube long enough that even if the lock nuts become loose there is enough threads left in both connectors that it remains in place like all push pull tubes should be made to be sure.
thank you for telling us.

Andre

Sounds like fun but I'm committed to helping out EAA 309 with their fly-in on Saturday at IPJ. Oh, and there is that little issue of a broken engine.

Good that somebody pay attention, Andre, Thanks.
However, I must tell you that I also thought I had measured and made the rod long enough so that it could not possibly come unscrewed from the fittings even without the lock nuts. It turns out I was wrong, strongly suggest that you use lock nuts, unless of course you have disposable seat cushions {:>)

yes I remember reading your experience on the serv a couple years ago we finished 2 RV7 and that one thing we check for sure we make that tube long enough that even if the lock nuts become loose there is enough threads left in both connectors that it remains in place like all push pull tubes should be made to be sure.
thank you for telling us.
