Hi Bill,
I was lokking at how you attached the wing root fairings and can figure out what you did on the fuselage but how did you attach the fairing onto the wing?

The fairing is NOT attached to the wing. The wing will flex and has to be removed/installed. It just sits on the wing surface.

Wing root fairings are bonded to the fuselage and not the wing. When you remove the wing, the fairing stays with the fuselage.

Not necessarily.
I bonded my route fairing to BOTH the fuselage AND the wing. After it was cured, I then cut it in half with a thin saw blade.
The end result is a VERY clean joint.

Thanks Bill,
I should have been a bit more specific, I was refering to the bottom wing root fairing that you slide into the slot you built up under the fuselage. Does this also "float" where it covers the wing and does it fit into the joggle at the inner edge of the underside of the wing? If you don't mind could you also explain how you constructed the slots on the fuselage.

Okay, that is a different story.
First, to make the 'slots': I laid a long straight edge (4' aluminum ruler if I recall) down on a flat table, laid a piece of poly over that so nothing would stick, and then laid a strip of 2 ply bid that went from the table up over the ruler to make a step. I put peel ply over the BID, and then brushed it down to make it conform over the step. After cure, it was trimmed to size, and then bonded to the bottom of the fuselage using Aeropoxy 6228 and clecoes. I then filled the bottom of the fuselage at the 'step' to smooth the transition using MICRO.
The fairing is attached to the wing with screws and nutplates, overlapping the 'joggle' and it 'floats' in the slot on the fuselage, that way there are no stresses when the wing flexes. At the front of the wing, the fairing tucks under the top fairing.

I presume you did a layup and used the bottom of your wing as a mold to make the panels for the bottom wing root fairing. What did you use as a release material and how thick did you make this layup.

Actually, the close out panel was supplied by KIS as a molded part (flat with curve for wing leading edge) as a single sheet. I had to cut it down the center and then make the curved cut to handle the transition at the front.
If this was not supplied, you will have to make your own by covering the wing with 2 mil poly, then making the layup over the poly, using peel ply. The factory piece looked to be more than 2-ply, I would go with 3-4 ply for that part.

Hello Mike, When I made these fairings for my KIS TR-1 I set the fuselage
upside down, installed the wing (one piece wing for this plane), and molded
the fairings to fit exactly. I used primarily package sealing tape for
release material and to bridge the gap between fuselage and wing.
