Hello again,
The builder of my plane used rubber grommet to protect wires and tubing passing through sheet aluminum. In a couple of places, these are dry-rotted and need to be replaced.
Does anyone have any experience with some sort of split grommet which would prevent my having to re-wire?

Yes- Take a normal rubber grommet, cut a slice clear through one edge with an razor blade creating your slit. Install the grommet and rotate it so the slit is either straight up, or 180 degrees away from where the wire might have tension on the grommet. I have done this for years and is still working fine with no problems. The wire does not try to go into the slit. It is better to use the thicker of the two types of rubber grommets.
