Builders,
I have the old style lexan/aluminum doors on my 701.
After getting everything hooked up, I discover that when the doors are open to the stop, the lexan pushes against the fuel drain.
That has got to be a big problem since lexan and gasoline don't mix.
I wonder what some of you are doing keep the doors from pushing against the fuel drain?
Many thanks and as always, Do Not Archive.

my 701 has 2 vent holes about 1.5" across in the lexon at the drain places. has two more at the top of the window the same distance from the trailing edge of door.. looks like they belong there. have two more of the spin able vents in the leading edge of the windows all four are symmetrical from the edges.. till you put the doors up everyone assumes they are just vents
pic shows front one but the back blends in . i drew a line around it with text box but didn't shrink well.. the line is shaky the hole is perfect

My 801 did the same thing... I switched the fuel drains to the "low" profile ones... I think they were the Safeair ones..... Poor planning on Zenith's part for sure.

Tommy
I had to drill 2 holes in my door windows to clear the vents. The windows have gotten some fuel on them from leaking but so far haven't cracked or crazed

Tommy.
The old 701's had the doors swing forward so the fuel drain wasn't a
problem. Like Ben I switched to the low profile drains and used a soft
rubber bumper form McMaster Carr to hold the door away from the drain.

It depends on the size of the piece of aluminum where the door piano hidge attaches in the fuselage (I do not have the plans here to see the part number), we made a instalation test of the door before cutting it to sze, We left the drain about 1 inch away from touching the window..,
What we couldnt prevent was that the drain will leak the same week we were checking a radio noise, and the doors were left open all week long (we didnt fnished testing Sat night).
The hole shure looks like a little vent.

Tommy,
I used the twist to open type of drain cock instead of the very soft spring loaded one that was on my 701 when I got it. Just make sure there is no drip on the valve before you open the door. The door cannot open this valve by accident.
