Hello to all
question :
Is it possible to change a motor with about 300 hours running only with mineral oil and change to a dispersant oil like the aeroshell w100.
Is it possible?
Anyone who has experienced this.
If yes what kind of operation should be done to do so?
Cleaning the oil filter every 10hours???
Thanks for every bit of experiance you would share
Kind regards
Didier

Hi.
I do operate my M14p (M462RF) with Automotive 15W40 mineral oil
of cheapest kind. The oil pressure is well.

Why not consider changing over to the Philips radial engine oil, 25W-60, which is a mineral based oil that can be used during break in and for the life of the engine.

The problem with automotive oil is that it does not have any additives
to deal with the
Lead-Bromide byproduct of combustion. This winds up in your oil.
Lead-Bromide is both
Corrosive and abrasive.

Hi Monty.
The gasoline I use, has no lead content at all.
It does harm the environment, as you know.

Excuse me, Uwe Wulf....
Do you feel your recommendations for engine oil and type of fuel for the M-14P are representative of the interests of the majority of this lists readers or just yourself?
Just curious.

Mark,
Uwe is the guy who has am M14P running on a VERY small car. But it is on 4 wheels, so since it does not fly (yet ?) some aviation concerns don’t bother him.
The car is a very small thing, built in the 1950’s in Germany, so small that the owner did not need a driver’s license. This made it very popular in Germany after WWII (when many ex-soldiers could not get a driver’s license).
It certainly is impressive seeing this big radial taking almost all the room inside this small car. The exhausts are in the middle, of the car...And when it starts ...
Uwe, can’t you post a few pictures? It’s not easy for non-German speeking people to find them on your website.

Here's a link to the German car with the M14 radial. http://www.dpccars.com/car-videos-09/06-29-09page-Radial-engine-powered-compact-car.htm I wonder if he has the Spark Plug Conversion Kit on it.
Cheers Guys,

Hi.
Of course, I can test out some new ways
to operate the engine, because in case of failure
it just stop on the side of the road.
I made some movies and put them up to youtube.com
My youtube chanal there is "dwerke".
Just type for dwerke and you will find more movies
in original quality.
Next year (2010) we will test this car more and more
under higher power. Actually this year it was the problem
that the gasoline supply by electric pump was too less.
I will also try to pass it street legal. After this is done, the
project is complete and I can start another project.

but if it's a 2-cycle engine why does it still have a pool of oil under it?

Hi.
There was also another radial engine powered car
design: The Volkswagen Beetle`s early prototypes
had a 5 cyl. 1200cc radial engine in the rear.
This VW- and the Monaco-Trossi racer`s engines were
not aero engines.
If anyone could find another car with radial aero engine,
please let me know...
Yours, Uwe Wulf

OK so as far as I read I can see nice pics and nice cars but no answer...
is it possible to change from mineral to 100W without danger (obstruction of oil system due to mud going into the system..).
If I understnd well Deniss it could be possible to use a mineral based oil better than the aeroshell. But changing to a W100 (for example??)
Is it possible to use a 15W50 for example??
Kind regards

We recommend that if an engine has over 100 hrs with the Russian oil then it
is better to stick to straight mineral oils. The Russian oils were
particularly prevalent to coking at higher temperatures. In fact several
eastern block aircraft engines had longer TBO if operated on Western
detergent oils. (LOM engines). You will often see an Aeroshell or ELF
sticker on older Zlins to note that they were operating on western oils and
thus had longer service lives.
