is anyone using locking caps for the wing tanks on a 701 circa 1994. the opening is 1 1/2 " and is like the old automotive type cap with the two tabs the go 1/2 turn and hold cap in place. the new plastic ones for autos are not going to work. had 60L of fuel walk away by itself last night. and a damaged cap as well. they walked on it and broke off the vent tube. the game has started . they will be back for a fillup.. i have to make it hard enough to deter but not so much as to piss the brainiac off or think they can still break open and damage something ... gggerrrr

Is this a case of "damn'd if you do, and damn'd if you don't"? If you lock
the cap, there are other ways to get the fuel out, remove the lower tank
drain, or use the drain?----- punch a hole in the tank ?
Some folks are not aware of the stiff penalties of "messing with aircraft",
probably a stupid quesiton, but would a warning sign help?????
Feed back----- to lock or not lock ????????
Sorry to hear folks are stooping this low.

the field is posted with signs and vidio no gates . was too dark a night with blowing snow. manager said this is the first time this has ever happened. Have had a problem with pickups trucks on the runways tearing up the grass but the brains were apprehended. turned out to be the offspring of some the upper class in this town. one of the fathers even had a plane at the field. all were prosecuted.
am still looking for alternatives . one suggestion was screens in the filler neck so a siphon will not go in. still leaves the possibility of contamination though.

Hello Ross:
Sorry to hear of your problem. Since you speak of fuel in Litres, I's
guessing you're in Canada? What do the Autorities say about investigating?
Have you considered these:
TimberviewT 1.3 MP Digital Game Scouting Camera. A
prepared hunter is a successful hunter!
Game Scouting Camera,
Get to know the resident whitetails before you step foot
in your stand. This 1.3 MP Digital Camera uses an infrared sensor to detect
motion and heat up to 30' away and then snaps a clear, digital photo with
time, date and photo number stamp to help you keep track of the area's
comings and goings. Comes complete with bungee cords and tree peg design for
easy mounting.
This is just an example, tons of models are available. Others have
infra-red flash for at night. Do an internet search for "game scouting
cameras" or "trail cameras" They are around everywhere.
I'm about to put one up on my garage for reasons similar to yours.
Best of luck,
Randy, Las Vegas

thanks for the cam tip. looks like part of the solution. will camera up and leave tanks empty for a while and see what develops. will be putting caps on as well and switching every preflight to the old vented caps. just hate when the slime ooossses to the surface and make life even more of a pita.
update / edit lost another 25L about 4 days later and 2 before the cameras were installed. leaving the tanks empty for a while. downside is the A--hole (s) have hit 7 other planes on the field. estimate 300L so far in the last 4 weeks. and they leave the caps off every time. most owners come back to find several inches of snow on the wings w/o caps on. last week we got 1ft of snow and 60km/h winds = open front hangers have almost as much snow inside as out..... 6ft drifts between hanger and runways. police have been camping out at nights but no luck. one owner suprised the criminals on site at 8pm the other night and played road tag for several minutes but lost them in another blizzzard we were having at the time. We are closing in.
