I understand all that but after hearing of lead plating destroying bottom
ends a few times I just wanted to know if this isn't one of those stories
everyone hears and assumes to be true. It sounds a little unlikely to me and
I was hoping someone could point to a definitive source of evidence.

I use NGK's, however be certain that the plug caps do not screw on or off. Make certain also that these caps are of a bronze color and not aluminum. If you use auto plugs with screw on aluminum end caps, they WILL arc inside the cups and burn the inside of the cups and blacken the inside. You will eventually lose electrical contact with these type plugs. -Lion8

Why plugs are not the same

The ground electrode it longer and won't adjust the same.

Rich,
You are exactly right. We are talking apples and oranges here. I bought
some plugs once that didn't have the removable screw caps. Unusable in the
912. I always had to remove the caps to fit under the wire connectors.

Thanks Roger
I thought I was OK but when I went to the Rotax Illistrated Parts Cat., it showed the plugs with the caps on.
