I am in the process of covering my door interior surfaces with material. Does any one have any good photos that you could post or forward of how best to cover the latch mechanism area. I have looked through several builder sites and couldn’t find a photo that showed good detail. Also couldn’t dig up anything in the archives.
My goal is a cover that could be removed for fairly easy access to the mechanism but would make the door panel look clean with out seeing the latching gears.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks,

I just cut a rectangular cover plate out of aluminum and glued it on
with some E6000 over the latch area, so the fabric would have a smooth
surface under it. I don't know that it would be worth spending too
much time making something that could be removed extremely easily...if
you had to do that, you'd probably be tearing your fabric off anyway.
If that's your goal, I'd make a larger, more decorative cover plate,
and don't put the fabric over the latch area at all.

You could cover up to and around the match area, and then make a cover plate
that screws or snaps on and cover that separately. See the pictures of the
TruTrak plane. They have something like this, although the whole bottom of
the door is a removeable panel, it looks like.
