I posed a 2.5 minute video on N110EE arriving at SBP this afternoon. I
was coming back from LOP testing and decided to test my HD video camera.
I am not sure why the prop shows up in some videos and not in others.
Kind of annoying but a good break from pounding rivets. I left the audio
on to hear engine noise etc. The swaying left & right is NOT how it
seems when I am on approach. As this is a test video and not
extraordinary I do not plan to keep this posted for very long.
Note Pacific ocean in the distance. The mountains on the right are
called the 7 Sisters and are 7 extinct volcanoes. I live on the tallest
one.

Robin, what did you use to capture the video?
I also noticed that when you were slowing to turn off the runway the bar
on the left did the 'flexible pencil' trick. I had the same 'problem'
using a Sony Handycam filming from the cockpit of my Pitts.
Also like your 'scimitar' prop!!! =-O

I used a cool RAM suction mount (new style with twist leaver) and Sony Webbie. With the new, free Windows Movie Maker Live and Google's YouTube it is seamless. I actually filmed this upside down and can invert a whole video with a simple click. I remember when it took most of my resources to rotate a photo.
The 1080P Webbie is this one ($129.00):

I expect to take better more vibrant videos in better lighting conditions. This was 15 minutes prior to rain (in CA no less!).

I picked up a JVC model GC–FM1 for my wife for Christmas. We’re expecting our first baby in a few months and thought this would be a good tool to keep in her purse.
<![endif]--><![if !vml]><![endif]>

It films in High Def 1080p, 720p, VGA, and CVGA.

Earlier today, I pulled it out of the box and charged it so we could use it to record our nieces on Christmas day. I think it shows some of the same traits as the Sony Webbie. My guess is that it’s the digital image stabilization causing the effects. Here a quick video I shot and uploaded in High Def (1080p). Just by moving the camera from left to right, I’m seeing some strange behaviors too. It has to be the stabilization. You should click on HD to make sure you get the full effect of the image fracturing.

Haven’t had a chance to use it behind a prop yet, but hopefully we can do that shortly after the New Year. Right now, it’s going back in the box (fully charged), getting wrapped, and going under the tree.

Great image quality considering the pricing. Two years ago HD was $1,000.
These definitely don’t like shaking so you may want to consider another camera for the birth because there will be A LOT of ShAkINg going on!
I like the HDMI output on the JVC. My ideal unit would have a video/audio in to hook up an external camera/audio source.
Regardless enjoy the camera and we are looking forward to an on time arrival.

Bob,
I really is wonderful here. Beautiful weather year round. I golfed 9 holes yesterday and was down to a Polo shirt.
San Luis Obispo sits in a terrific location with small mountains protecting it from the coastal cold and larger inland mountains protecting it from the heat of the central coast. There is really no bad time of year here unless you have allergies. We have been called the allergy capital of the US. If one were to fly from Santa Barbara or Vandenberg AFB just south of SLO past Pismo & Shell beach, over Morro Rock and Morro Bay, a beam Hearst Castle and up towards Big Sur & Monterey that would be one special flight. Maybe get some aerial whale watching in at the same time. I guess there was a reason WR Hearst built here.
SLO has the magic of rolling hills that are bright green about 4 months a year while the central coast vineyards are brown and as the mountains turn brown the vineyards turn green.

How one gets to live here is a matter of happenstance like most things. The down side is that San Luis Obispo, CA was recently rated the most expensive place to live in the US when considering income opportunity. Not a lot of high paying industry here. Most of the high income individuals are retired or in technology (like me) where working remotely allows us to live where we wish. Until recently housing was completely unreasonable in SLO but with the downturn some starter homes that were $7's may now be in the high $3's. For the last decade we have had diminishing school populations as young families could not afford to move into the area and school their kids. There is a trade off however where our public schools are excellent so private schools are not required like they would be in our LA neighborhood.
To further dampen people's desire to move here I can tell you that I have a large hangar 45x50 that cost more than many people pay for their home. I know a beautiful spot in AR where you can build a custom home on a private air field (see my first flight) which is situated near a beautiful lake for less than the cost of my hangar. And 20 years from now the lease will expire on the hangar and the county will renegotiate to a rate I will not be able to afford. Fortunately I plan to lose my medical long before that happens.

Happy Holidays to all. I love my RV’s and the RV-List.

On the other hand, Santa Maria, CA, 22 miles South of San Luis Obispo, rents hangers for $163 month. I built a 1,800 square foot hanger at SMX airport for way less than $100,000 and lease the ground for about $400 a year with a fifty year lease. Not bad for cooler summers and warmer winters than SLO. We love it here at Santa Maria!!!

My hangar neighbor (Cessna 410) is our hangar association attorney. He recently sent out a letter discussing our lease renewal options. His investigations show that Santa Maria (SMX) is substantially subsidized by some local taxes and that is why SMX is so inexpensive. I really like SMX but I live near SBP. I can’t justify nearly 40 minutes each way regardless of the savings.
Chuck are you the -10 builder with the inflatable houses? I remember visiting a -10 builder in SMX about 3.5 years ago.
