Can anyone tell me how you would compensate for different length rivets when using this tool?
Thanks,
Keith

Keith,
Hand squeezers have an adjustable ram (the part that moves up and down with the handle) that the lower rivet set rides on. The ram screws in and out to adjust for variable rivet length--typically a full turn adjusts like 1/32 of inch or so (maybe 1/64 I don't remember). Finding the right amount of in vs. out is usually a trial and error affair, at least for me. I adjust so that my first squeeze is under set and then go from there. Just remember that an under set rivet can be squeezed some more, while an over-set rivet has no remedy except to drill it out and start over.

On most hand squeezers the die that moves up and down sits in an adjustable barrel. Sometimes you have to squeeze the handles a bit to take the pressure off the barrel, but once you find its sweet spot the barrel should screw in and out pretty easily.
When things get really tricky, you can shim the dies with washers to make them bigger, and grind them off to make them shorter, but the adjustment should take care of 99% of it.

Ah OK.
Thanks for that. Now here's another question I'm actually skinning over a framed area that normally held radios in my Nanchang CJ-6. I want to be able to remove the aluminum sheet so I was going to rivet in nut plates. Do you think it would be easier and as strong to use rivenuts instead?
The sheet will have a smoke oil tank and battery mounted on it. I rarely go negative G so there won't be much it the way of a pulling force on the screws

You got a great answer for this already.. but might have been easier with a simple phone call... and we could walk you through it. What was explained was probably the single most important issue on building. Suggest you buy a rivet ck gauge.... they sell tehm (really cheap) for both 3/32 and 1/8th rivets.

actually not over or under squeezing the rivets is what I understood.
