I've spent the last hour perusing build sites with no luck. Does anyone have some pics on how to hook the blow tubes into the mags? There seems to be a logical port, but before I remove it I thought I'd ask.

Since I'm on the subject, can anyone point me to procedures for proper timing?

much obliged,

cjay

Cjay'

They don't hook to the mag, the tubes blow air from the back baffle and should be directed towards the part of the mag that houses the condenser....I used one inch scat flanges mounted on the baffle and one inch scat tube bent to shape with safety wire and secured the wire with red RTV...I can shoot you a pic in a little while when I get to the hangar

I just re timed mine, let me find the procedure...way different than automotive...do you have a timing module? I managed to get both mags almost perfectly in sync thanks to the help of a Lycoming loving friend who helped me out...

AFAIK, mag and alternator blast tubes just channel cooler air to the
area, not really inside them. I think there may be a chance of blowing
debris (bugs) into the mag causing more problems than high heat.

Here is a great article from AVWeb on adjusting the timing, I have to find my Lycoming manual disc for the factory procedure which is the same with much older pictures!!

Hi Cjay C

Here are some pictures of what I did. The left one is hooked via cushion clamps to the engine mount and the right one is hook to the bolt stud that would hold the vacuum pump.

In case it is not clear from the pictures C the air is ducted just over the outside not into the mags. As a side note depending on your engine monitoring system the "logical port" will be used for an electronic tach pickup.
