I have just finished installing the counter balance upgrade and the LAA measurements will not work as printed. If you lay out the new ribs to the 327.3 the counter balance weights will not clear the lower wingtip and will hang out of the wingtip if you install the weights on the outboard side of the square tube.
The plans don't show this but the fix is either move the ribs 200 mm inboard or making the ribs 90 degrees of the hinge line.
for those of you that have already rivited them as to the drawings you will have to install all but one of your weights inboard and one of the thin weights outboard to keep the tube from crushing.
Have Fun

I wonder why you are now seeing this when there are other planes out there with the LAA mod in place?/ out and flying?
anyone else find this out when doing their LAA balance mod?? AMD? Zenith? LAA??
hope we can find an answer to this before I get up to it..
Chris..

I think the confusion comes from using the Zenith supplied User Guide. If you follow the actual LAA prints it should work out much better.
This one caught me also and I canted the ribs to gain room. I will find out tonight if that will fix the issue.

No Ron if you use the LAA drawing they DON'T work. Roger didn't follow the drawings and placed his at 90 degrees so he had much more room from the wingtip. If you look at the photo guide you will see in his aileron the bottom rivet line is very close to the trailing edge outboard tip. If you use the LAA drawing measurements it is further away thus putting the tube closer to the wing tip.

It doesn't matter who is wrong here. The fix I am going to apply is to bend the arm about 2.5" towards the fuselage. It was EAA chapter 13 night and some good ideas came out about how to move the bar without tearing the aileron down again.
Going to make a form to make the bend that will keep the bar boxed while forming with clamps. Pictures and dimensions to follow.

Ron
If you do what I did and Roger suggested all you have to do is put all the weights but 1 inboard.
Then it fits without bending the tube.
