Folks, this ad is being placed for a friend. NO, it is not a YAK, but let's say it is a powerful cousin! I've seen the airplane and can verify that it is one very hot rod son of a gun. Not for the faint of heart, and definitely for someone who wants the best of the best. For those of you (us) who think that the YAK-50 is unbeatable in a dog-fight .... ummm.... you might want to rethink that after you see this thing fly.

It might beat a -50 in 1-v-1...but for that kind of money, I would get a 4 -50's and go all China on him....meaning overwhelm him with numbers!!

Nice bird.....can I live in it? Is there a place for a stove and a tub?

Did you watch the YouTube video Tim?

This is basically one of those aircraft that if you have to ask how much it costs, you really need to look elsewhere. This is a one of a kind aircraft, built using the best features of three different models of Sukhoi, to create a purpose built aircraft meant to kick ass in any aerobatic contest, limited only by the abilities of the pilot and little else. The design allows it to be supported by existing parts, the proof of the design comes from winning the four minute free-style, and the price is in line with what the very best of these aircraft go for these days.

Just to give the uninitiated a little hint... the landing gear struts on these aircraft and made from solid titanium. SOLID TITANIUM! Go anywhere you want in the U.S. of A. and ask how much it would cost to make just one. The wings have been stress tested to over 20 G's before failure. Then tested again AFTER they failed and they held the SECOND time (same wings) to over 9 G's. The engine is one of the most powerful M-14's ever produced by Russia. The fuel system has been customized to allow long cross countries... and this thing will cruise faster than a YAK-50.

Comparing how many YAK-50's you can buy for one of these, is honestly comparing apples to oranges. No matter how many apples you buy, you still don't have an orange. The old saying applies: "Speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?" In this case, we are talking about competitive aerobatics. How much is the very best worth? Depends on how badly you want to win.

A similar 435 HP engine on a -50 with a set of VG's would make the fight
more interesting. What's the difference in the empty weights Mark?

My Yak 50 has a new M14R engine, measured at the factory in Moscow at 437
hp, three-bladed MT prop, empty weight 720 kg. Oil cooler from an MI8
helicopter. But would be NO MATCH IN ANY WAY with this Sukhoi 26.

About $250,000 worth!

Sorry, couldn't resist.

There is a lot of pride shared between YAK-50 pilots, and it is a
wonderful airplane. With the PF, or Jan's 435 horsepower monster
engine, it becomes even better.

The wings are not strong enough for unlimited level aerobatics. They
are also not symmetrical. It also does not have the roll rate.

You put Hubie Tolson in this Super 26, and anyone you want in any YAK-50
in the world, with any model of M-14, with any VG's, or other
enhancements you want, and the YAK-50 would be toast, and it would be
toast so fast you wouldn't believe it.

I have messed around with Hubie in my stock 50 with him flying a stock
26 and a 31. The Suke will out "everything" the 50. I tried to screw
with him once in a formation flight coming back from Warrington
Virginia. I came into the break wide freaking open, out of a shallow
dive with him tucked in tight. Doing about 200 mph. Rolled 90 and
pulled ... Well I pulled a lot. We'll leave the "G" meter value out of
this conversation. I rolled level and there was Hubie on my wing
smiling at me. Sheesh. Yes, he had the MT-9-260, but still. The Super
26 is MUCH better than the stock 26.

The Super 26 was built by Richard Goode by the way. Ask HIM how it
performs.

Apples and Oranges... Just the way it is.

the stock SU26 still has enough performance to place in the top ten in the world championships. When you have enough performance to do this, further performance enhancements are more want than need. With 400 hp and empty weight around 1500 lb, i'll take the reliability of this engine over the 400plus M14P variants.
You don't see the MX2 in the top of the world championships. It will leave a Sukhoi in its dust, yet the contest mission is still what the Sukhoi does best. Dogfighting? I'll bet the MX will smoke anything.

I agree with your totally.

If you want to win the Nationals, let alone the Worlds, you go for any advantage you can get. This Super 26 has some serious advantages.

Some people want the best of the best in any given category. This is arguable the best performing SU-26 in the world.

Enough said.

Great Looking bird too. Would look even better if they would just fold the
feet. I know it is a weight thing.
The thing is, if I were going to spend $250k for an airplane now I would
pull another $200K out of my orifice to plunk down on a YAK3/9 or even an
11.
Not the same I know and a different type of flying also.
Each to his own as economics dictate.

I would like to believe that these aircraft are close enough to have pilot skill as the determining factor. Regarding the Yak 3/9 ...... They have been regarded by pilots that have flown all the ww2 types to be the best dogfighter of the era, even surpassing the Spitfire. For the cost of two Sukhois, you can own one.

Concur.

Go look at the current selling price for an SU-31. Not a Super-26.
Just a stock PF model SU-31 with 9-260 prop.

You might be amazed.

Mark

P.s. Yak folks are spoiled with $50,000 aircraft.
