As most   of you know we are located about 70 miles west of Washington DC in   hedgesville, WV. In the past 7 days we have had two major storms. A normal   year for us is about 10 -15 inches total. This past week starting last   friday. We had 33 inches the first storm and again on Tuesday into Wednesday   we added another 16", this time with wind. Our local roads were  drifted  shut and some still are with 6' drifts. I was stuck at the airport  all day  Wednesday and most of the day Thursday. Here are a few pictures of  the  airport and the roads to the airport.

   Looks beautiful, but I'm sure you have had enough of it.  So how long does it take you to plow the runway?

Ryan,

     I think it is about time for the Green Landings  detachment of the Lightning Skunk Works team to come up with some snow skis for  the Lightning.  So don't plow that runway, put the skis on.

 As you may know, Ryan has been waiting for the delivery of a small  turbine.  The plan was to use it for runway clearing as the snow was  falling, simply by doing some fast taxing.

  

 However, UPS lost it somewhere and it was a one-of.  Lawsuits are  pending, however, so there can be no further discussion, under the advice of  counsel.

  

 The current plan is to use a snow-board instead of skiis, mounting it to  the main gear, but slightly forward.  This will allow some quick turns both  up and down the Green Landings hill.   We tried using the hood from a  new Toyota, but it keeps sticking.   Also problems with the  brakes.

 Hello GL Hangar Rat,

     Great idea about using snow boards for skis on the  Lightning landing gears.  Being wider than skis, they should give some  extra lift in flight and great maneuverability in the moguls on the down  slopes of the Green Landings runway.  Since the Toyota hoods kept  sticking for you, maybe they will be recalled.  At least something about  the Toyota is sticking - apparently the brakes don't.  

     By the way, as to the skunk works, is a hangar rat  higher on the food chain than a skunk.  Which species has the larger brain  - hangar rat or skunk???   Inquiring minds want to know.

 Skunks are waaay overated.  Just because they can shoot stink and have  a two-tone paint job, they think they are intellegent.  They think they are  creative too. 

  

 We rats are smarter.  We dont do squat,  eat what we want, sleep  days, poop everywhere and watch others work hard.   Do I need to  mention our reproductive skills?  

  

 I am waiting for Ryan to get back from picking up two more Lightning  kits.  He is dropping off one in New York State and will start the other  when he gets back tomorrow.   Shop will be crowded and busy, but that  means food and beverage for me, cause they eat in the shop.  But the  sanding dust makes me itch.   Oh, well.

     Thanks for the rodent lesson and the update on  goings on at Green Landings.  How about giving the newsletter some "words"  on the upcoming Lightning builds and any other ongoing GL Rat Pack  activities as you get the time.
