Hi
After reading all the advice about doing the farings etc before wings go on, I thought I would take a crack at my wheel farings. Seeing how inaccessible the inner tube valve stems are, I was wondering what the "best practise" is to deal with this issue.
Pix would be a bonus!

Les,
First, get some new tubes from Desser that have the 90 degree bend on them (they do not make leak guard tubes with 90 degree bend). The straight stems end is too close to the axle nut, making getting a chuck on them a royal pain. Plus side is these tubes are about $13 each vice the $50 for leak guard.
Next, cut yourself a small access door that is hinged at the front. Put the door at the 9 o'clock position on the wheel looking at it from the side. Then use some tire chalk marker to mark the wheel at the 6 o'clock position when the stem is at the 9 o'clock.
That way, you can move the bird till you see the mark showing out the bottom of the wheel pant, then open the door and the stem is facing you ready for air up!
I fill my tubes with nitrogen to slow the inevitable slow leaks.
I just installed the remote pressure sensors (available thru Spruce) so I can monitor pressure without having to put a gauge on it. Takes a bit more lead weight to balance them, but it's worth it.

Les, posed same question to VanAirforce crowd and posted pictures of my solution there. Also, fashioned an angled nozzle to gauge and trigger assembly I bought at Walmart - an idea found on VAF. Hope this helps.

Les, do a search on VAF in the RV10 section and go back about 75 days with your search. The thread in called adding air to RV10 tires. Several ideas are described there.
Have you decided on your prop yet?

Hey Les,
I decided to 'Keep it simple" and went with these 2" nylon knockout plugs from Grainger:
http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/items/1EMR6?Pid=search
I just scuffed up the nylon and painted it with the same acrylic enamel as the plane -- so far it is sticking. I used an under 2" hole saw, then hand filed the pants to fit. I also used a heat gun to gently soften the "grip cleats" to bend them to grab tighter so they won't vibrate out.
It works well with the front wheel, but as others have noted, the mains valve stem points directly at the axel nut. I won't cut the main pants until he changes the tube at a later date. I like the idea of a spring loaded door with catch, but it looks clunky on certified planes and I like the slick look.
Later - Lew

To keep it real simple... just install "leak stop" type tubes, and ck the pressure twice a year (seasonally) when you ck your brakes. That's simple!

Hey Grumpy, thanks for the tip on the remote pressure sensors. What is the range on them?
I would imagine the castoring nose-wheel makes a flat or blown tire very serious. On a typical Cessna, you might be able to keep it on the runway, but I would imagine the RV-10 would take you for a ride. I like to keep a close eye on my tires and pressure. Anything that makes them easier to check will probably mean I'll check them more frequently.
