Mike, I have to differ with your reply. A limerick extolling the idiocy of one POLITICAL party or politician in response to a prior comment in the same vein is NOT RV related. While it may be interesting to some it is not the intended purpose of THIS list. I can get annoyed and respond with actual facts and that would get someone goat causing them to reply in kind. I have seen other lists deteriorate over these differences. That can drive away users that may actually have something helpful to add to the community. There are other places to discuss religious, political etc… thoughts. The RV-List is not the place.

Just because you do not think the subject is interesting does not mean it is not rv related. Just like primer, where the third wheel is on the back where it belongs (I could not help it), tip up or slider. Some find interesting some do not. That is the way of things. Laugh about it, ignor it whatever. Just thank god you live in a country where we can enjoy flying, building and friendly arguments. It is all good. Lighten up enjoy the folks and the beautiful day.

Delete yourselves from the state, and leave.

Quit whining about it here. Pretty simple I think.

Me, I can afford it, and my RV build, and my current certificated airplane, thank you very much. So I’ll stay.

Actually, when you consider the number of RVs flying (6641 according to
Van's hobbs meter) with untold more being built, it is probably hard to
find any reputable airport that doesn't have one or two. I know that
there are quite a number at the airports around here in NJ - some of
them with sliders and nosewheels (mine included, but it was primed). Wink

Wherever one retires to, I assume one would want to have (a) a good airport
and (b) good airport friends around. Taxes are no fun, but at the other end
of the spectrum, I guess I wouldn't want to end up in some god forsaken
place with a dirt and rock runway, a broken down airport dog, and a rusty
can that inspires the day's intellectual highlight: figuring out why
somebody can spit as far as the can and some people can't.

Oh, and you don't want to go where there's a lot of slider RVs that weren't
primed and have nosewheels.

Actually, I was on a Bonanza list that discussed any topic. I quit do to the 200 - 300 emails daily. The discussion was just done with some politeness and friendship. With an occasional I know Mike won't agree with this..., or several paragraphs of thoughtful discussion.
--------- Political thought you may wish to skip ------
My thought for the day. I believe the the ideas and the perception of "truth" of Ayn Rand and Karl Marx both are both incompatible with a functional democracy. Please do not comment to this on the list.

Thinking of retiring?

Whatever you do... Where ever you plan to retire to, don't move to the Pacific Northwest. Taxes. They'll kill you! The weather... god awfull. 24/7/365. Mud runways everywhere. The worlds worst drivers on rock strewn roads. Not to mention all the political whack jobs running the states... Don't say you weren't warned!

Chris, you might blame this on the Reps. You might blame this on the
Dems. But the truth is that my Ex. moved out to Oregon 12 years ago.
Isn't that when all these problems started?

Well, I started this thread a week ago, and I deserve what I got. Smile

Truthfully, a few people have given me some very valuable advice. My
original request for information about Santa Barbara was to help me
confirm my plans to move to San Diego. Now, it seems that there are
several other lovely towns in SoCal or the central coast that might
be equal or better. I've looked ay nearly every place that has been
mentioned on this list. I ended up west of the Continental Divide.

Those of you who have been complaining or venting about taxes,
inflation, and unemployment should know that things *everywhere* are
the same. I have been looking for nearly 15 years for a place to
retire with my RV-4. I've met a lot of great people, and saw a lot of
the US of A that I might never have seen. Almost every place I've
been has some merits, all have some downside - just like everything
else in life. Please don't blame one administration or the other on
our problems. We're all in this together, and we should all thank our
lucky stars that we have the ability feed our kids and our RV's. Most
of us are going to take some licks from the current world economy,
but we'll be back. Hopefully stronger than before.

So... what about Santa Ynez, Solvang, Buelton, Oceana, Carmel Valley
( Oh, I forgot, they amputated that airport), Los Alamos ( No, not
that one! I mean the one in California), ..........? Thanks,
everybody. You too, Matt.

In my deepest REM sleep, I dream of moving to San Diego. Plus you get to be
close the guys over at Trio -- swell, folks.

What you say really hits home. We sometimes lose perspective in our
politics. Today, a guy who -- all things considered -- still had a good
life, had a kid and a wife that, presumably, he loved once, had built up so
much hate that he crashed a perfectly good plane into a building, to kill
someone's mother, or daughter or son... And as many as he could, too.

At the risk of being pollyanna, things can always be better, but I'll take
my lot in life over 90% of the rest of the world any day.

I don't like paying taxes. I like stupidity even less, and I don't like the
lack of courage by either of the political parties right now. But here I am
with running water, a roof over my head, a nearly-built airplane in a
hangar, and when I go home tonight, I'll be able to open a beer and scrounge
up some food. And in 5 months, I get to hang out with some of the best
people I know -- half of whom I'd probably learn to hate if we ever talked
politics. (g).

Eyes on the big picture, boys. We got it good on Planet RV.
