|
|
My carb choke cables and/or handle are hanging up. I find
I have to flip it back down, and then press IN on it to make
it stop choking the carbs.
Does someone know exactly step by step how to resolve this?
I can't be the only one to have this issue..... thanks!

Check at the carb end. Pull the cable end boot up off the carb fitting and gently pull up on the choke cable. There should be a little bit of free play before you feel the plunger come off the seat. Pull up and down a few times on the cable to be sure the plunger is good and free. If not take it apart and clean it.
When you put the boot back down be sure it seated all the way down on the carb adjustment fitting and is not holding the outer cable ferrule end up in the socket.
You will see that there is an adjustment on the carb to adjust the inner cable throw. There should be a little free play in the cable when the choke lever is off.

It's seating correctly and adjust right, but either the haulback spring is bad or the cable is dragging. Does anyone have details on dissasembling these choke 'lever type' systems? I didn't assemble it so wanted to gether info before jumping into it....

Open this document and scroll down to near the bottom to see the enricher parts removed. The only spring in the system is on the plunger. If your cables are sticking you may need to get a cable lubing kit from a snow mobile/motorcycle shop. You can also try spraying some silicone lube right on the sliding shaft of the lever.

WildIrish, here's a some more information incase you need to replace your choke cables.
The choke cables for a two stroke in a Kitfox are modified by the builder by replacing the stock cables attached to the choke lever with longer replacement cables.
The longer replacement cables are part numbers #47004 and #47018 choke cable extensions. The builder grinds or files one end of the replacement cables to match the shorter cables so they can be installed in the link.
You will probably need to talk to the Kitfoxllc factory folks about them if you need to replace.

Hi Wild Irish,
These guys have some good ideas. Another item is to look at your cable insides. If you are using the choke cable that is all steel inside you might want to replace it with one that has a plastic lining. It stays corrosion free from rust and slides smoother especially if you lube it. My bet is some where in your cable it is binding just from old age, rust or as someone mention you may need new choke return springs.
