Hi all,
I had been having trouble with the rollout after landing since
installing the 36 in. crome molly gear legs , and large wheels I was
always behind the airplane and was and was over controlling , just
couldn't
seem to get it right. I figured it had to get better with practice,
Today was what I thought was the perfect day to practice X wind
landings---8 to 10 mph direct X wind swinging about 20degrees ever 30
seconds
or so , piece of cake before the gear change. I started crow hoping
made 15 or 20 some of them were ragged enough that I was glad no one
was watching. To make a long sad story shorter but not much
happier , I had a really hard ground loop, bent both axels the right
one 45 degrees down---wheels went out at the top-- because of the
plane skipping sideways . didn't bend the cage or the gear, but hit
the right
wing on the ground. Don't know much damage , I do know the trailing
edge spar has a 6in bow in it , trailing edge bent up,and there is
loose fabric at the rear of the last two bays. Will talk with Bryan
Melborn and Kolb tomorrow and see what they
recommend for an inspection. Now believing That Homer knew what he was
doing when he designed the gear so the plane would be easy to land , I
have already put the gear back like it came from the factory.
Hats off to Larry C and others that fly with the long gear. I think
I'll stay stock for a while.

Frank,
Sorry that you had trouble with the gear legs. While I don't do too many landing on pavement, the ones that I have, had shown none of the tendencies that you describe at all. In fact the gear legs that I do use are quite forgiving and springy and I wouldn't trade back at all.
